Fixing my credit?

LusciousLady asked:

Recently I’ve been looking to fix my credit. Its nothing major just a few minor things and I’ve been reading alot of information. I read that If I’m denied for credit that I can send proof and request a FREE credit report being that I’ve already used my one for the year. Can I send that to all three bureaus?

Best site to get my credit score?

ka0tix asked:

Where is the best place online to get your credit score? & is there a website that will give you your credit score/report for free? I would definitely prefer a site that’s approved by the better business bureau. I’m well aware that if I run a report my score will lower slightly but I’m in desperate need to know what points I’m looking at…

Can I dispute this charge?

lwomar asked:

Okay, I purchased a car from a buy here pay here lot back in Jan 2006. I originally wanted a 2000 daewoo that had only 60k miles on it, and they gave me a down payment price of $1500. However when I got there, they jacked the down payment price of the Daewoo up to $2000 and suggested I look at another car. The car was a 2001 Saturn originally for $6500 & I put down $1500. Although they were buy here pay here, they said after 6 months of payments they would begin reporting my good payments to the credit bureau which they never did. I was ALWAYS on time with payments. However, in Mar 07 I decided to surrender the car back to them because the car had significant problems one being a problem with the transmission. I took it to a saturn dealership and the total cost to fix the car would have been $1800 which I did not have. I told the car lot about it and they basically said they don’t fix cars and see if I could find someone to do the job cheaper. I found a cheaper job of $1600 which wasn’t really much better. So as I continued to drive the car it began to get worse and I surrendered the car back to them. I had made $200 monthly payments from the time I bought it in Jan 06 to the time I returned it in Mar 07 and I even made my Mar payment before I turned it in. I get my free credit report, and see that they have placed it on my credit for a charge of $4600. WTF! How is that for a car that was originally $6000, minus the 14 months of payments I made? Also, it wasn’t a repossession. I took the car back to them and handed them the keys. If and I mean IF I owe anything, aren’t they supposed to take out for what they resold the car for? Can I dispute this charge on my credit report?

Credit monitoring service.repairing credit, is this service necessary?

Reality Check asked:

I am in the process of repairing my credit. I already have the most up-to-date credit reports from the 3 major bureaus which I got for free from http://www.annualcreditreport.com

While repairing my credit, having debts deleted or paid off, etc…I want to be able to see the changes happening. I can only order my credit reports for free once per year…so cannot check to make sure that collectors are erasing the debts as being requested in negotiations. I was wondering if anyone uses a “realtime” credit monitoring service (preferably that is updated daily, or everytime a change is made to the report), so that I can validate my requests are happening.

I’m not so much concerned about the scoring…but if it’s included, then I suppose that’s a bonus. Any suggestions? Is there a way to request my FREE credit report more than once per year (e.g. tell the CRA’s that I am repairing credit, and need a fresh copy, etc) without having to pay each time?
Micki…you did not read my question at all. I am talking about online monitoring services, not a debt consolidator or debt management service. I am doing the work myself.
Sgt Big Red, thanks for the response. Are you referring to “they” as the CRA’s (Equifax, Experian, TU)? “They” make changes all the time to reports, without sending you an updated report, thus why you have to request it. Otherwise, every time someone inquires into my credit file, or reports me (adversely or positively), I would get a new credit report in the mail. I’m not so sure who you’re referring to…

If you mean the collection agency will send me an updated report, I wouldn’t count on that either…they just want their money to settle the debt, not send me an updated report.

A stranger’s name on my credit report?

Keilee asked:

I interviewed for a job at a bank, and at the orientation the HR woman said that in a credit check she ran, another person’s name came up on my report. I have no idea who the person is, but sometimes we get mail for her (it’s always a credit card ad or spam mail). It’s my parents house and to their knowledge, no one lives on the street with that name or has lived at this addy. My employer wasn’t concerned (I got the job) but said to check with the credit bureau. I’m going to speak to someone at my bank b/c I don’t want to do an online dispute on some random credit site. But why do you think that woman’s name is on my report and how easily will it be removed? IDK anything about this stuff. I know my credit’s good – no debt or what not.

The only thing I worry about is interned for the State of Ohio for 2 years several years ago. My name and info got stolen along with many other workers’ info when an intern’s computer was stolen from his car. This was about 2 years ago, and that’s when we started getting mail w/this woman’s name. Coincidence? All the employees whose info was taken got free Debix protection accounts from the State for one year, and in that time, nothing came up. So if it had been this woman trying to open an acct. with my info, wouldn’t I had been notified? Wouldn’t it be more likely that somehow our addresses got mixed up? Don’t know if anyone else in my family has her name on their reports. When my dad recently bought a car, they didn’t say anything about it.
I already had a fraud alert placed so that anyone trying to open anything with my name had to go through me first. That’s what the Debix was.
